You are the world’s light—a city on a hill, glowing in the night for all to see. Don’t hide your light! Let it shine for all; let your good deeds glow for all to see, so that they will praise your heavenly Father. Matthew 5:14-16

We may take light for granted in today’s world because the light comes easy with the flip of a switch. But Jesus’ audience knew the importance of light. No one would put a lamp under a bowl because the lamp is designed to help people see in dark places. In those days, the lamp was strategically placed in the home for everyone in the house to see. Jesus compares his followers to light, saying we “are the light of the world,” unable to be hidden and those who shine their light is the only hope for a dark world.

Just like the lamp was placed in a strategic spot in the home, God has strategically placed you where you are now. You have been placed where you are to have an impact. It might be at your job, neighborhood or within your own home. You may not like it but God has us right where we are for a reason and uses us to have huge spiritual impacts in the places He puts us.

We all are going to be an influence in this world—positive and negative. People you come in contact with are impacted by the way you think, believe and live. God wants to use YOU to shine the light into this dark world.
